Take your bike at the Amstel Railway station and cycle with our guide along the Amstel river just South of the city. This unique and beautiful landscape of peat meadows forms a crucial role in our eco system of drinking water and flood control.
After a short boat ride we will visit one of the authentic windmills, the Riekermolen of 1636 and make a stop at the statue of Rembrandt. The painter Rembrandt and the Amstel have a strong bond. Several of his paintings drawings and etchings were made while he was walking south along the beautiful Amstel river. Of his drawings some 180 have a topographic reference to these walks.
Later we will visit a local farm. See how Dutch Gouda cheese is made in a traditional way. Along the banks of the Amstel river we arrive in Ouderkerk, a picturesque 12th century village which is older than Amsterdam. Through the 'polders' with grazing cows, elegant country estates and authentic farmhouses we return to the station. From the station its only a 10 min. ride by subway back to the city center.

Dennis "We booked this bike tour and we loved it. A great way to see the regions surrounding Amsterdam and most enjoyed the huge old windmill and cheesefarm! "
